Rare Venetian edition regarding marriage which had extraordinary success in Europe and it was republished several times.

Thomas Sanchez (1550-1610), Spanish Jesuit, was jurist of great fame; this work was censured in 1627 for the Disputatio De debito coniugali (cfr. tome III, p. 171). The ecclesiastical reaction concerned the papal authority in relation to the validity of marriage in presence or absence of offspring. The success of this work was linked not only to the pure juridical doctrine, but also to the many pages dedicated, directly or indirectly, to the intimate relationship in the marriage.
