Description
The Utagawa School was a group of Japanese woodblock print artists that become the most famous and successful print group in the 19th century. Well known artists Hiroshige, Kunisada, Kuniyoshi, and Yoshitoshi were all Utagawa artists. The founder, Toyoharu, innovated Japanese art by introducing a Western-style deep perspective to his designs. His students and followers learned from his innovative spirit and began to explore more specialized genres, such as landscapes, kabuki actor prints, warrior prints, and mythic parodies.
