AN AFRICAN TRIBAL SHELL MOUNTED BRONZE MALE FIGURE, POSSIBLY YORUBA PEOPLES, NIGERIA, 20TH CENTURY, modeled in a standing position and wearing a brown earthen clay covered woven conical headdress centering vertical rows of white cowrie shells surmounted by a circular open ring, above a forehead with dotted eyebrows and heavily lidded open eyes, over a flaring angular nose and partially opened protruding lips flanked by flat ring form ears, on a short neck adorned with a conforming ringed necklace and a shaped cylindrical body enclosing small domed nipples and ringed navel, within slightly bent outstretched arms ending in single strap bracelets and open palmed hands, above a twisted trim detailed loin cloth flanked by horizontal stocky tubular legs bent at the knees and ending in stylized feet, on a flat circular line incised base with wood remnants covering and trimmed in graduated rows of braided raffia and cane strapped grasses, raised on a rounded and animal hide covered woven cane base. Height: 17 1/4"
