Description
Apulian, 4th century BC. A ceramic blackware lekanis comprising a shallow bowl with pedestal foot and two scooped handles, lid with central discoid handle; the bowl with vertical stripes to the upper body, the lid with rosette to the lid strokes to the rim, busts of two ladies of fashion each with cream detailing to the stephane, necklace and earrings. 472 grams, 21.5cm (8 1/2"). Property of a London gentleman; acquired by his grandfather in the 1920s; thence by descent.
