Description
2nd-5th century AD. A mixed silver group comprising: a knee brooch with facetted body, D-shaped headplate, scooped foot, extended catchplate to the reverse; a strap buckle with round-section loop, curved tongue, rectangular plaque with lateral flanges and rivet to the rear plate. Cf. Hattatt, R. Iron Age and Roman Brooches, Oxford, 1985, item 466. 18 grams total, 32-37mm (1 1/4 - 1 1/2"). Property of an Essex collector; acquired on the European art market. [No Reserve]
