Description
1st century AD. A silver-gilt bow brooch of the kräftig profilierte 'anchor' type, with a broad plaque in front of the spring and pin, trumpet-type bow with lateral flukes, D-section collar flat footplate with lateral discs and knops, onion-shaped finial, broad footplate with catch to the rear. Cf. Hattatt, R. Brooches of Antiquity, Oxford, 1987, item 1396. 14 grams, 40mm (1 3/4"). Property of a London, UK collector; acquired London market, 1990s.
