Description
American Rococo Mahogany Full Tester Bed, mid 19th century, of the type crafted for the southern market, the projecting cyma-molded cornice on tapered cluster column posts supporting a paneled headboard with a floral and shell carved top rail, the posts joined by serpentine rails with central applied carving, to a like footboard, the tester with a silk upholstered panel, H.- 111 in., Int. W.- 58 in., Int. D.- 72 in.
Condition
Condition consistent with age. Scattered pea-size veneer losses along the top edge of the tester. An approximate 2 foot hairline crack along one rail. A 1 by 5 inch apparent repair to the veneer on the foot of one post. Scattered light scratches and small dents intermittently throughout. Faint hairline cracks and several gouges to veneer on the posts. A 2 by 2 area of darker discoloration in the middle of one post. A lovely example.
