A MONUMENTAL SILVER PRESENTATION URN TO RABBI LOEB IN 1866 FROM THE JEWISH COMMUNITY OF BELGIUM. Belgium, 1866. On heavy stylized base decorated with flowing leaf chasing that connects to a large main body decorated with two cherubs, two magnificent outwardly facing lions, organic designs, swags and lions heads. Also decorated with a relief of Rabbi Loeb on one side. Topped by Moses on Mount Sinai with the Decalogue in hand. Engraved “LES ISRAELITES BELCES A LEUR GRAND RABBIN MR. LE DOCTEUR LOEB 1866”. Rabbi Henri Loeb was the grand rabbi of Belgium from 1834 - 1859. The bust pictured on one side was designed by Leopold Wiener, who was an important Jewish engraver and sculptor of the 19th Century, serving as the First Engraver of the Belgian mint. He designed much of Belgium's currency at that time, several medals commemorating the Belgian Royal family, and produced a vast portfolio of medals. 21” tall. Provenance Parke
