The vessel "Emma Fields" was built in 1849 bearing a 944 tonnage and having a hailing port of Liverpool, England. On its return trip from the inscribed date of the present lot, the vessel brought almost 100 Irish immigrants to New York who were fleeing the Great Famine. Over the next several years, the ship would transport thousands of Irish Famine immigrant men, women, and children to Ellis Island. The urn with gilt interior, having everted egg-and-dart border to rim, scrolled and banded foliate frieze to neck, reeded and foliate-form handles, gadrooning to lower cup and collar, raised on circular base with acanthus leaf border, body engraved:

Note: This piece is maker marked twice with Elliott's stamp: once to the body and once to the footed rim.

Marks rubbed, minor scattered pin dents, some scratching and dent to one section of gadrooning to lower body, with surface scratches commensurate with age, polishing, and use. Presents well.
