Description
Edgar Degas (French, 1834-1917) lithograph print with impressed paper mark in the form of a lily flower, untitled, address to his friend, late 19th century. The signature appears to be in plate, although uncertain. Pigments in the signtaure match those seen in the sketch itself, possibly signifying that they were both printed OR that they were both sketched with the same drawing tool. The ballerina, the most common of Degas' subject matter, is seen from behind and although the legs and dress form appear to be consistent with Degas' work, rarely do we see him having sketched a ballerina from behind and in such minor detail. The image appears as a charcoal sketch or quick brush watercolor, although has no texture. Paper 11" x 12 1/2". Rip in top left and water damage in middle.
