The award was given to Wynette for her contributions to Country Music as well as for being a role model to young aspiring artists. Tammy Wynette (1942-1998) was a Grammy Award winning country singer, famous for her hit "Stand By Your Man." The song reached No. 1 on the country charts and No. 19 on the pop charts. From 1968-1970 Tammy Wynette won three consecutive Country Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year honors. Wynette was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1998.
