Description
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Valdivian, Earliest Horizon (Early Piguigua-Late Piquigua Phase, Early Formative Period) ca. 2300 to 2000 BCE. A trio of small clay figures with faces created by incised slits and female upper torsos. These fired clay figures were produced, starting at the major Valdivian site of Real Alto, roughly five hundred years after similar ones were made in stone. Without the accompanying body, it is unclear if these particular examples had a sex; although most examples are female, some have both male and female properties. These figures were found near hearths and food preparation areas, as well as in burials of important personages. Comes with custom stand. Size: 0.6" W x 2.55" H (1.5 cm x 6.5 cm)
