Description
Beautiful rosewood large 19th century English tea caddy is exquisite in all details. The box is inlaid with brass sarcophagus and ornate brass medallions and lining on the lid and front. Detailed gradooning surrounds the perimeter of the lid. Brass ornate ring handles either side of the coffer. Sits on large bun feet. The interior even more striking with velvet ruched lid, outlined in red leather with gold tooling. The two removable canisters are fitted with additional brass work as well. The center bowl, hammered silver plate, has probably been replaced many years prior and of excellent quality, made by the International S Co. Meridan SP, with name and hallmark symbol along with 674 marked on bottom. The interior red liner below the bowl as well as lid and other components, however, are original. Working brass lock with fitting key and black tassel attached, yet key does not lock the box. A locksmith could key slightly to allow complete locking ability. One slightly lighter small spot of velvet due to age and very minor wear to red leather at side bottom of lid, otherwise, excellent condition. Measures 8 H X 12 L X 6 D.
