Description
Ancient Near East, Achaemenid Persian Empire, ca. 550 to 330 BCE. A dark stone seal with carved twin ibexes, seated on grass in the shade of a leafy fern- or palm-like plant. Seals - both cylinder and flat - provide us with most of our knowledge about ancient Persepolis and its surrounding Empire, including the chronology. The ibex is commonly featured, presumably drawn from life but also representing some royal qualities. Size: 1.1" L x 0.75" W (2.8 cm x 1.9 cm)
