Description
Peter Ness ship model "Sovereign of the Seas." Outstanding model of the Boston built clipper ship from the East Boston workshop of Peter Henrick Ness. Ness built this model for a Canton, Massachusetts family in the 1960's. Details include built up cabins, planked deck, carved lifeboats, brass anchors with carved stocks, brass bound masts, stone pipe, hatches, etc. The rigging is complete and unabbreviated with a complex number of cords including foresail rigging, clove hitched ratlines, cargo hoisting tackle, etc. Brass spar hardware is well executed. The carved hull is painted black above the waterline and a verdigris green below with a gold boot stripe. Mounted into a mahogany display case with satinwood inlay and table with raised panels.
