Document “ A” *** Noteable Judge Robert Yates, the judge in this case, was a contemporary of Alexander Hamilton and was sent to Philadelphia with Hamilton to represent NY State in the re-writing of the articles of Confederation in 1776, the convention that led to the US Constitution.Yates an anti federalist, returned to NY early on and did not remain to write and sign the final Constitution.Writ of Trespass, Writ of Habeas Corpus NY City/ County 1796(Common English Tort Law of the time) Written in quill pen and ink on parchment.Document size is :10 in by 3 inExterior Fold Side 1:Filed 20th April 1796Interior: Affixed ;True wax seal, protected by a 1 ½ x 1 ⅝ in piece of parchment;The People of the State of New York , by the Grace of God, free and Independent, to the Sheriff of the City and County of New York, Greeting,We command you that you take John Blagge, if he may be found in your Bailiwick and him safely keep, so that you may have his body before us in our Supreme Court of Judicature , to be holden at the City of New York, on the third Tuesday of April next, to answer unto John Atkinson in a Plea of Trespass; and also to the Bill of the said John Atkinson against the said John Blagge for Three Thousand Pounds upon Promises, according to the custom of our said Court.
