IKE ERA CAPITOL FLOWN US FLAG - The Enormous Wool Flag, (8 feet x 17 feet), flown over the Capitol Building during the May 13, 1954 Eisenhower signing of the Wiley-Dander Act to authorize the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway, which was finally opened by Eisenhower and Queen Elizabeth II in 1959. The flag was owned by US Representative Clarence Evans Kilburn of New York (1893-1975), who was the main supporter and whose state was the chief US beneficiary of the Seaway. Frayed leading edge, some soiling.
