Description
An Egyptian basalt bust from a sphinx, Late Period, c. 664 – 30 BC, the head in the form of a pharaoh, wearing tripartite headdress with lappets including uraeus and false beard, the top of the head with a carved projection with central recession, perhaps for offerings. The features and well-carved with light deposits. H: 5 3/8 in (13.7 cm), W: 2 ¾ in (7 cm). Mounted on old rectangular wood base. Ex Kellaway collection, Massachusetts; Danforth Museum, Framingham, MA.
