Single sheet, folded into 15 panels, with color lithograph bird's-eye view/map of Yellowstone National Park and points north one side, descriptive text about the park and the Northern Pacific Railway line on the other. 62x47 cm (24½x18½"), folding into stiff paper mailer.
Spectacular bird's-eye view of the Yellowstone National Park and surrounding area, produced as a promotional brochure for the Northern Pacific Railway. The view, titled in lower margin "Yellowstone National Park. Northern Pacific Railway." Copyright 1895, by Chas. S. Fee. Poole Bros. Engr's, Chicago. On the back, along with text, are two maps, one of the railway line and its connections, the other of the west coast from Portland to north of Sitka, with the inland passage. Warren Heckrotte notes that "The text on Yellowstone Park includes how to get there, schedules, costs, where to stay, rates, what to see and do, table of elevations, table of prominent geysers and springs. Text on Alaska includes a long quotation from John Muir and information on Alaska excursions including sailing dates from Tacoma and back from Sitka for 1897; also from Sitka to Unalaska."
