MARY VALLANCE (BRITISH / AMERICAN) PICTORIAL NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER, silk on linen, an elaborate composition retaining vibrant coloration, design featuring large spread-wing bird and flowering urns in upper panel, two-chimney Georgian-style house flanked by female figure, peacock, and other birds in lower panel, "Mary Vallance" at lower edge, additional imagery includes butterfly, grapevine, and other floral devices. Housed under glass in a 19th-century figured maple frame with gilt liner. Late 18th/early 19th century. 14" x 12 5/8" sight, 17 1/2" x 16" OA.
Toning and light fading. Areas of staining/discoloration to edges. Scattered breaks, losses, and old repairs. Frame with minor wear. Not examined out of frame.
