Description
VIRGINIA OR DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA "BIRDS IN THE AIR" PIECED QUILT, cotton, comprising 110 square blocks, created with small and large triangles; hand quilted in 13 stitches per inch in a close, straight lines going in one direction in the large triangle and in a perpendicular direction in the smaller ones; backing is pieced using two different fabrics, self binding. Registered with the Virginia Quilt Project, label stitched on back with the date, "June 13, 1988/ Registration number AB-2". Made by Nancy Scott Adams (1823-1890), District of Columbia and Northumberland Co., Virginia. Circa 1860. 89" x 95".
Fair condition with many areas of fabric deterioration, predominantly along fold line on backing, fraying on binding.
