Description
Ancient Near East, ca. 3rd millennium BCE. This is a simply-shaped, heavy bronze axe head representing some of the early bronze casting of the ancient Near East. The blade curves downward and there is no butt, just a thick, cylindrical socket. Size: 4.7" L x 1.5" W x 2.8" H (11.9 cm x 3.8 cm x 7.1 cm)
Provenance: Ex-Estate of John Piscopo. Mr. Piscopo was one of the largest collectors of ancient weapons in the US with a collection that spanned all cultures, all ages.

Condition
Some wear to edges, with a pattern of score marks around the socket that appear to be ancient (based on patina) but perhaps not original. Nice dark green patina, with slight dirt encrustation on one side.
