Description
1863 Diary of Edward Dickson Hicks II (1831-1894) of Devon Farm, Nashville, Tennessee. The diary is mostly farming and account related, with very little detail, although a few entries point to life in Union-occupied Nashville, including a note for Friday May 29: "Streets Barricaded" and for Monday June 1: "Firing from Fort Negley at 1/4 past 1 pm". Several entries, including July 7, appear to be written in some kind of code. Provenance: the estate of Sarah Hunter Hicks Green, formerly of Historic Devon Farm, Nashville, Tennessee.
