Description
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Coastal Manabi Province, Bahia, ca. 100 to 500 CE. An fine mold-made terracotta female figure from the coastal Manabi Province of ancient Ecuador, nicely detailed with applied and incised details as well as soft grey pigment. She stands with hands positioned at her sides, her nubbin breasts and wide hips perhaps indicating that she was created to be a fertility figure. Her visage projects a rather peaceful countenance with large, closed eyes adorned with face paint applied in rectangular forms that connect to a line outlining her cheeks and chin, smiling lips, and a pointy nose. She wears a substantive smooth, domed headdress, ear ornaments, and an incised waist covering. Custom, museum quality stand. A beautiful figure of a transcendant nature! Size: figure itself measures 3"W x 6.75"H (7.6 cm x 17.1 cm)
