Description
Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Tlatilco, ca. 1200 to 200 BCE. An exemplary hand-built pottery sculpture of a standing female presenting bulbous legs, wide hips, and a narrow torso as she extends her petite arms outwards. Capped by a domed headdress with an undulating periphery, her elongated head displays stylized features, such as lengthy, slender eyes with drilled pupils beneath an arched unibrow, a raised nose, and full lips held open. A pair of rectangular ears flank her huge head, each displaying pierced lobes for suspending ornaments. Petite breasts sit at the top of her chest, just above a drilled navel and delineated genitalia. The entirety of the figure is coated in a lustrous red slip. Size: 5.25" W x 12.125" H (13.3 cm x 30.8 cm)
