A POTTERY ZOOMORPHIC 'OWL' JAR AND COVER, A LARGE POTTERY FIGURE OF A DOG, A POTTERY MODEL OF AN OX AND A POTTERY MODEL OF A LADY
Han Dynasty
The grey pottery owl form jar with some red and cream painted detail remaining; the large terracotta dog wearing a harness, modelled with tightly curled upright tail; the grey pottery ox standing with the head lowered, with some red pigmented detailing; the pottery female modelled with flaring faceted robe and high coiffure.
The dog 35cm (13 3/4in) long. (5).

The owl jar:
The result of Oxford Authentication Ltd. thermoluminescence test no.C103q64 dated 30 July 2003, is consistent with the dating of this lot.
The owl vessel is similar to a piece illustrated in R. Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, volume 3, part 1, p. 86, cat. no. 1097. A closely related figure may be found in Y. Lu, Spirit of Han: Ceramics for the After-life, 1991, p. 99, cat. no. 57.
