Chinese Carved Jade and hardwood Table Screen; 19th c. The frame enclosing the attractively variegated black, white, brown and green marble panel of finely carved jade round disc, protruded in the center, with round wooden medallion knob to the center. Framed in carved hardwood, formed by two scrolled feet, from which rise vertical posts flanked on either side with stylized archaic dragon motifs.
Jade feels smooth and is a olive-green milky appearance with nature of creme-teal inclusions.

Bi (Pi) disk, Carved jade disc with a hole in the center, used for ritualistic or emblematic purposes. The earliest examples are undecorated and date from the Neolithic age (10,000 BC onward), while later examples become more highly decorated. Although not known for sure, they are assumed to represent symbols of the sun or of heaven.
