Description
VERY FINE Chinese Ming Dynasty Chinese gilt bronze Bodhisattvas figure of four arms Avalokiteshvara.
Ming Dynasty, YongLe Reign Period, and of the period (AD 1403 - 1425)


As the nature of all Buddha, seated Avalokiteshvara, with resplendent, smiling, peaceful serene face and radiant amidst intricate ornate headdress, elongated ears with floral earrings. Adorned with many attractive silks and jewels. Its has four hands, the first right raised slightly above shoulders in Mayura gesture, the right holding a floral attribute. The lower are folded at the heart in Namasakra mudra.
Two beautiful feet seated in full lotus posture upon double lotus crown pedestal.
The Buddha figure characterized with ornate carnelian and turquoise beads inlaid mounted upon jewelries.
Underside with incised Quadra-petal flori-form visvavajra mark and centralized DaiJi.

Mark on front Pedestal, Incised six script -KaiShu- characters, YongLe Reign Period of Great Ming.

This sculpture appears to be the perfect example, by any artistic tradition, both for technical precision and exquisite form. The proportions of the body are exact and the overall presence and beauty make this sculpture a precious artistic treasure.

Provenance:
Private collection of Mr. Chen YueQuan, born 1906. A Chinese Immigrant, Prominent businessman and private asian antiques collector in South East Asia. Also well known as ‘Eyeglasses Old Man’. During 1950 he was one of the wealthiest family of The Chen's Clan. He supported the 5th renovation of Sam Poo Kong Temple Complex, the oldest Buddhist and Taoist Temple in Semarang, Indonesia. His relationship with local government including overseas ambassadors gave him a chance to receive and or collecting numerous precious arts and artifacts. During the Indonesian Revolution Riot in 1998 many Chinese fled the country, including some of Mr. Chen’s Family. They migrated overseas. Mr Chen passed away in early year of 2000.

Condition
Excellent condition, with normal anomalies in nature, sign of stressed surface, minor scratch & dent. Surface traced wear to gilding. Normal, considering ages and wears.
