He wrote especially of the English imperial race doing justice and upholding law; the two poles of family and empire about which his genius turned. His authoritarian political faith later became unacceptable to many. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, 1907. There was only one pirated edition published by B. W. Dodge, and it had a binding variant----later copies have the lettering on front cover and spine in red instead of gold (Stewart 324) hence the earlier gold one is very scarce. In order to discourage the sale of the unauthorized edition, Kipling instructed his American publisher Doubleday, Page & Company to issue a volume containing the same material and which was to retail at 19 cents." Previous owner's initials & date in pencil on 1st blank end paper, o/w internally tight & unmarked. Binding Exterior; Blue cloth with gilt decorations on front cover and spine.
