Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, northern Highlands of Peru, ca. 900 to 200 BCE. This is a uniquely-shaped black ware stirrup vessel with a slightly flared spout and a round body that calls to mind some kind of fruit, with a three-dimensional design radiating down the sides. The Chavin people lived in the northern Highland Andes, and their capital, Chavin de Huantar, is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The artwork of Chavin represents the first widespread style in the Andes. Size: 3.9" W x 6.3" H (9.9 cm x 16 cm)

Provenance: Ex-California Museum of Ancient Art
