Description
Pre-Columbian, Mezcala Culture, Upper Balsas River Drainage, Guerrerro, West Mexico, ca. 700 BCE to 200 CE. A large male figure with an over life-size abstract head, short torso and legs, standing with abstract arms folded across his body. The eyes were roughly pecked out and inlaid with shell in ancient times, but these inlays are now lost.(It is extremely rare to find a Mezcala figure with original shell eyes, and the loss does not effect the aesthetic value of the piece). This is a large and substantial figure that is carved from a heavy grey-green stone in the classical abstract Mezcala style. Size: 9"H x 3-1/4"W x 2-1/4"thick.
