Every cover with multiple ornate gilt frames surrounding a large (3""x 4"") gilt center medallion. A stunningly beautiful shelf presentation. Covers have condition issues (original boards) which only add to the character of these amazing books. This books are from the library of famed American-born, Hungarian-trained furniture maker, prominent antiques restorer, and authority on early American furniture, Paul Koda (1905-2001). His signature, profession, place/date neatly in three lines to title page. The original owners name also in neat early script to title page in two lines. The very rare set of books contains all 383 plates called for, including the 14 double page and 29 folding plates originally published. 4 parts bound in 3 volumes, interiors finely toned, with some creasing, more at edges. Else pages supple, binding tight; many plates near fine. According to Wikipedia, ""André Jacob Roubo (1739–1791) was a carpenter, cabinetmaker and author. Roubo was born and died in Paris. The son and grandson of master cabinetmakers, he earned that same designation himself in 1774 through the publication of his masterwork treatise on woodworking.
He wrote a highly influential complete treatise on woodworking that covers practically all the associated trades. This multi-volume work, L'Art du Menuisier (The Art of the Joiner), published between 1769 and 1774 by the Académie des Sciences, contains sections and illustrations on: building carpentry, furniture making, and precious woodworking (ébénisterie), carriage making, and garden woodworking.Roubo's design for a workbench has proven to be popular amongst some modern woodworkers."""
