Folio (12"x 16.5") 1870-1888. 9 complete years of early Harper's Bazar (sic) (vol #/years III-1869, VI-1873, VIII-1875, X-1877, XIII-1880, XV-1882, XVI-1883, XVII-1885, XXI-1888) bound in green publishers cloth with large decorative title and overall embossed design to cover. Gilt vol#, title, year on each spine with overall embossed and gilt floral design. Rear covers with all embossed title and design. Spine heads and tails with tears and all except vol VI in good condition, vol VI having tear to senter of spine and loss to head with faded gilt overall. Fold out full patterns throughout volumes with incredible illustrations from artists such as Thomas Nast, Winslow Homer, Gustave Dore, among many others. Lots of period ads at the end of each weekly issue, with articles that pertain to the Reconstruction era and beyond. Fascinating reading, wonderful political cartoons and many full two page spreads including Nast's famous Santa Claus. Too many fashion plates to speak of with folding paper patterns in many of the issues for you to make your own! A real treasure for the historian or afficonado of fashion, hairstyles, political cartoons, retail advertisements, handiwork, and so much more.
