Description
Thailand, late 19th to early 20th century CE. This is a really striking piece, a realistic bronze hand with a lotus flower symbol on the palm and the fingers in the position of the Vitarka Mudra -- the thumb and forefinger joined, the palm facing outward away from the Buddha. The Vitarka Mudra is the mudra of "discussion", indicating transmission of Buddhist teaching. The circle formed by the finger and thumb symbolizes the constant flow of information and energy. This is most commonly done with the right hand (as this one here). Comes with custom wooden stand. Size: 3.5" L x 3.1" W x 6.75" H (8.9 cm x 7.9 cm x 17.1 cm)
