Description
Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Zapotec culture, ca. 500 to 700 CE. This is a lovely grey ware figural depiction in the shape of an urn. The deity is seated with his legs crossed and his hands on his knees. He has a nicely detailed face with large ear spools, a braided crown/headdress, and some kind of pectoral/necklace that is resting on his lap. Zapotec pottery is energetic and unforgettable; one of their most lasting legacies is their funerary urns. Size: 3.3" L x 4.5" W x 6" H (8.4 cm x 11.4 cm x 15.2 cm)
