Description
Falling block carbine, circa 1862. Stamped behind the rear "V" site "Richmond VA" Serial Number 1874, Stock carved with initials "CMD: COD." Carbines made under Confederate government supervision no longer have the Robinson markings. Lockplates of such pieces are stamped only with the serial number at the extreme rear portion in the same location the serial number is located on the Robinson pieces. The top of the barrels of these carbines is stamped "RICHMOND VA" in one line just behind the rear sight (http://americansocietyofarmscollectors.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/B032_Murphy.pdf). Provenance: According to the consignor, this gun was found in the wood pile when he bought his house in the 1970`s.
