Description
This is a very old cabinet, typical of painted furniture from Shanxi Province. It has a marvelous landscape painted in gilt paint which is very difficult. Yet the artist managed to express the painterly qualities of a landscape painting, depicting mansions among mountains and forest of trees. The painting style is evocative of early Qing paintings of the Four Wangs. The cabinet was once highly treasured, there are more paintings on the sides and back as well as on the top surface. The cabinet shows good age, at least more than 200 years. The dimensions are 32.5 inches wide, 21.5 inches deep and 24.5 inches high. It is old but could be reused as a base for a TV.
