Description
Africa, Tanzania or Mozambique, late 19th / early 20th century CE. This is a naturalistic carved wood mask with smooth naturalistic features, drilled pupils and an applied hair moustache. It has been painted a bright red and much of the pigment remains. The Makua people are the largest ethnic group in Mozambique and are famous for their masks. Size: 7.75" H (19.7 cm)
