Description
Continental, late 19th / early 20th century. A group of 5 majolica plates comprising pair of Wedgewood (English, founded 1759) majolica salad plates, each with single cabbage leaf motif, each marked underglaze on underside "WEDGWOOD MADE IN ENGLAND 11T835 E", each with applied label to underside "LOCKSON", each with additional applied inventory label to underside; majolica salad plate with trio of multi-colored grape leaves, with brilliant celadon, marked in glaze on underside "S", with applied label to underside "Dearing Antiques, Atlanta, GA"; majolica salad plate with trio of fans, butterflies and cherry blossoms, with applied label to underside "Livingston's Antiques, Charleston, SC", with additional hanging tag to underside "Livingston Antiques Majolica Plate England Circa 1870 Fans and Butterflies"; and oblong majolica dish with thistle and broad leaf motif, marked on underside with two indistinct makers marks, with applied inventory label to underside. "Cabbage Leaf" approximate diameter 8.125". "Trio Grape Leaf" approximate diameter 8". "Fans and Butterflies" approximate diameter 8.125". "Purple Thistle" overall approximately 9.75" x 12.25".
Condition
Overall with firing marks to underside. Cabbage leaf plates in overall excellent condition; with crazing to glaze, minor surface scratches commensurate with age and use to underside. Grape leaf plate with crazing to glaze; with fleabites to rim; with firing marks to top commensurate with firing marks to underside; with tight, stable fracture to underside, not visible from top; foot with wear commensurate with shelf use. Fan plate with fleabites and minor glaze loss to rim, not distracting; one chip to rim; small area of glaze loss to blue fan (possibly firing flaw); foot with wear commensurate with shelf use. Thistle plate with crazing to glaze; with small patch of glaze loss (possibly firing marks) to top, not particularly distracting; foot with wear commensurate with shelf use.
