Group of English Majolica Seafood Plates and Dishes
Comprising a Minton three-pocket 'Fish and Shell' seafood plate, shape no. 1497, date cypher for 1871, the central oval well supported by two fish, the heads and tails visible, alternate with three large shells, impressed uppercase mark and two small cyphers, raised registry diamond (23-X-A-5) for 23 December 1868, parcel 5, and shape number, width overall 9 3/4 inches; a Simon Fielding turquoise and pink ground 'Shell and Coral' six-pocket oyster plate, circa 1890, the central circular well encircled by six radiating oyster shells separated by molded seaweed, the well and rim edged with brown twisted rope, the mottled-gray reverse with six small shell feet, impressed cypher, black painted 514 and C, diameter 9 inches; an English brown-ground crescent-shaped oyster dish, attributed to Joseph Holdcroft, circa 1880, the curved side molded with a spray of seaweed radiating five pink-lined recessed shell pockets alternating with smaller shells, within a yellow line rim, the underside a mottled pale yellow, applied with three muffin bun feet, width 9 3/4 inches; and an Adams & Bromley polychrome cobalt-blue ground six-pocket oyster plate, circa 1880, naturalistically molded, the yellow central well encircled by alternating pink and green oyster shells, divided by stiff leaf tips, on a seeded cobalt-blue ground, within a yellow line rim, the reverse mottled in brown and white, unmarked, diameter 9 7/8 inches.
