Description
Attributed to August Eitel (German, 1833-1914). A large mixed media collage composed of preserved and flattened butterflies, moths, and beetles impressed into cotton in a pattern depicting a lyre, the instrument composed entirely of iridescent green beetle shells and multicolored moths and flanked to lower end with two figural portraits, one depicting Richard Wagner (German, 1813-1883), the other likely depicting Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Austrian, 1756-1791) or Johann Sebastian Bach (German, 1685-1750). Framed approximately 48.5" x 40.25".
