Description
Continental, likely Italian, 17th century. Hand woven and embroidered silk religious church vestment in the form of a chasuble with front and back decorated with gold patterned and leaved trim accenting red and gold field with raised stumpwork scrolled foliates and flowers at down front central panel with remnants of metallic threads, grape leaf and fruit motif throughout, radiating heavenly light or star on back. Unmarked. Overall approximate height 43", width 26.25". Provenance: From the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia.
