Description
An Ur III terracotta cuneiform tablet, c. 2150 BC, with cuneiform inscription on either side detailing a transaction of beer and bread. In nice condition with light deposits. 1 ¾ in x 1 ¾ in (4.5 x 4.5 cm). The city of Ur is considered to be the biblical city of Ur Kasdin mentioned in the book of genesis. It fell to the Elamites in 1980 BC and was later captured by the Babylonians. The city of Ur was also the home of Abraham, father of the Hebrews. Displayed within a Riker mount. Ex Rice Collection, Southern California.
