DESCRIPTION: 1952 Glidden Tour photograph album containing seventy-two black and white 8x10 photographs of cars in the tour in various locations. The first image shows well known operatic singer (and car collector) James MeltonIn in his 1907 Rolls Royce while a later image shows him working on the car with a young girl. In addition there is an image of William Pollock of Pollock Auto Restoration and past president of the Antique Automobile Club of American. Album with cover stenciled "Glidden Tour 1952". The original Glidden Tours were promotional events held by the American Automobile Association from 1902 to 1913 and were named after Charles J. Glidden, financier and automobile enthusiast. They were grueling road rally events designed to promote public acceptance of "horseless carriages" and improve road conditions. They were later revived in 1946 by the Veteran Motor Car Club of America and continued since. MEASUREMENTS: 9-3/4" x 10-3/4". CONDITION: Photographs overall with minor uniform toning. Album with wear and duct tape repairs to spine.
