JAPANESE HEAVY CRUISER EUROPEAN TOUR PHOTO ALBUM
Sailor's photograph album with about 75 5 1/2" x 3 3/4" captioned images from his travels, all ca. mid to late-1930s. The album, 14" x 10 3/4" overall, bears a faux crocodile cover with IJN flag and chrysanthemum on the covers. The album apparently contains images from a single voyage, as a printed map on the first page shows the route of the cruiser from Japan to Singapore, India, east Africa, Suez, Greece, Italy, France, and return via the same route with stops in the South Pacific. The first image, 11" x 9" shows the ship's crew posed on the bow of the vessel. Other photos depict chief officers, the vessel leaving Japan, prayer services, engine room, Indian locals, Sudanese soldiers, Suez Canal, Greek evzones, the sailors at the Acropolis, Pompeii, Rome, sites in Paris, etc. Cover bears marginal chips and tears, the contents are very good.
