Gerhard Fietz (1910-1997)
Gerhard Fietz was born in 1910 in Breslau and died in 1997 in Bleckede in the district Göddingen. He is regarded as a major painter of the second half of the 20th Century in Germany and co-founder of the artist group "Zen 49". He argued against the traditional representational art and developed as his fellow artists Willi Baumeister, Fritz Winter and Rupprecht Geiger a painting that focused on the exploration of the artistic means. Color, line and form in space became the sole subject matter. (fea)
