The drawing is overall in good condition with a few marks.Verso there are remains of the previous mounting. The sheets measures 29.6 x 20.9 cm.

Michael Croissant (1928-2002)

Born in Landau Michael Croissant in 1942 first began an apprenticeship as stonemason there that he finished from 1943 to 1946 at the Schule des Handwerks in Kaiserslautern. After that he attended a private art school in Munich for three years before he changed for the academy where the sculptor Toni Stadler was his teacher. Afterwards he worked as freelance artist until he got a professorship at the Städelschule in Frankfurt in 1966 which he hold until 1988. Croissants show a figurative abstraction. Together with the sculptor Franz Bernhard Croissant is considered a pioneer of floor sculptures, as he placed his characters without base directly on the floor. Michael Croissant received many honors and awards, including the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. In addition to public works, for example in Duisburg, Frankfurt and Cologne works are also to find in collections of German museums such as the Museum Ludwig in Cologne, the Bavarian State Picture Collection in Munich and the Kunsthalle Mannheim.
