Description
Central Europe, Bronze Age, 1200 to 1100 BCE. This bronze lance head has a ridged blade, a round socket, and two attachment holes on each side. Bronze Age central Europe was a collection of different cultures whose borders shifted and whose relationships to each other are unknown. This lance head looks like it might be the Sogel type, from the Sogel-Wohlde culture, which spanned modern day Westphalia to Jutland (northern Germany), and had inhumations in burial mounds. Only male graves have thus far been found, often with a variety of grave goods, including lance heads exactly like this one. Size: 1.5" W x 7.75" H (3.8 cm x 19.7 cm).
