Description
Europe, Bronze Age, ca. 1000 BCE. A superb pair of matching bronze armlets formed from extruded bronze into mesmerizing spiraling forms, most of which are smooth with a strong middle rib, however the final spirals are tightly twisted, making for an attractive decorative effect, with curled back termini, perhaps to resemble snakes. These were created most likely to be worn during the Bronze Age, and buried with their owner as a prized possession. It is unclear if armbands like these were worn for actual physical protection; however, scholars suggest that they had a ritual/religious protective purpose. Armbands are some of the most famous symbols of the Bronze Age in Europe. Both with gorgeous green patina and in wonderful condition. Comes with custom stand. Size: the slightly larger armlet measures 2.75" in diameter at widest point x 4.125" H (7 cm x 10.5 cm); 7.375" H (18.7 cm) on stand
