Historic document datelined "Pittsburgh Nov. 1, 1776": "Borrowed & received of Mr. Joseph Spear the further sum of sixty pounds Pennsylvania currency for the use of Indian affairs in the middle Department by us as Commissioners for the said Department" Signed by: Thomas Walker, noted army officer and explorer who is particularly noted for his expedition to Kentucky and surviving the disastrous battle at Fort Duquense during the French Indian War; Jasper Yeates, a member of the Continental Congress; John Montgomery, also a member of the Continental Congress; John Harvie, member of the Continental Congress and a signer of the Articles of Confederation.
